Derek Soutar helped Dundee celebrate their last Tannadice triumph and believes Scott Bain can become a hero just like him.
The former Dark Blues keeper starred for the Dens Park side in August 2004 as they came away with a 2-1 win from the home of their city rivals.
And Soutar is sure Bain, who was recently called up for Scotland duty, has got what it takes to follow in his footsteps in Sunday’s showdown.
Soutar said: “I would expect Bainy to be a busy man. It was like that for me the last time Dundee won down the road and I can see it being quite similar because of United’s plight at the bottom of the table.
“I remember they came out with all guns blazing and I had to be really on my toes for the first 15 minutes, before Steve Lovell put us ahead from the penalty spot.
“Scott is the kind of keeper who revels in the big occasion and they don’t come much bigger than this one with what’s at stake. He’s got the quality and temperament to deal with it.”
Bain is full of confidence having recently been promoted to Gordon Strachan’s Scotland squad for the upcoming friendly with the Czech Republic, and Soutar is sure he’s heading for the top.
He added: “The big thing in his favour is that nothing fazes him and he never panics. Even with the atmosphere sure to be bouncing on Sunday, he’s the last man who’ll let his concentration waver.
“I wouldn’t mind if he becomes the first keeper to end that 12-year wait for a Tannadice win he deserves everything he gets.”
