Do you know someone who could be Dundee’s Citizen of the Year?

Dedicated campaigner Stella Carrington was named Dundee’s Citizen of the Year in February.

The 76-year-old had been a forceful champion for the city’s Charleston area for many years and the driving force behind several projects, including the creation of Lochee’s Jute Women statue.

That selfless support of the city coupled with her efforts to raise thousands of pounds for good causes made her the perfect recipient of the title.

It is into such worthy shoes that the next winner of the honour must step, with the annual opportunity to put forward someone whose good work qualifies them to be Dundee Citizen of the Year opening later this week.

Lord Provost Bob Duncan said: “The title of Citizen of the Year is a special one not only because it is awarded to someone who has provided outstanding service to the community, normally on a voluntary basis, but also because the nominations come directly from members of our community.

“People who have benefited from, seen or been involved first hand with the person they are nominating and know for themselves the good work that the individual has been doing, sometimes over many years.

“In choosing Dundee’s Citizen of the Year, the judges look in particular for selfless service to a voluntary body or the community or someone whose service activities bring distinction and quality to everyday life in Dundee.”

Any nominee must live in the Dundee City Council area and nominations close on December 31, with the winner announced early next year.
