Dunfermline boss Jim Jefferies will do what he can to strengthen his player pool when sanctions are lifted in January.
The Pars are unable to sign any player over the age of 21 until the end of this year due to the transfer embargo placed on them for going into administration.
Jefferies, however, has several irons in the fire and was boosted by the news that goalkeeper Ryan Scully’s loan from Partick Thistle has been extended until the end of the season.
Pars fans can expect a few more new faces in January, if the boss has anything to do with it.
“We’ve got to strengthen if we can,” he said. “The board have already made a statement saying they were working hard to do something.
“We won’t have the money to buy players that’s for sure, like everybody else, but if there’s something out there that can maybe improve us, we’ll look at it.
“The one problem I’ve got is that I don’t know where we stand with the three players we’ve got on loan from Dundee United (Jordan Moore, Ryan Ferguson and Luke Johnston).
“We had got there prior to the change in rules but the new rule is that you can only take one from each club, so we’ll have to address that and find out where we stand.”
Jefferies was delighted to tie up an extension for Thistle keeper Scully, who is recovering well from a leg knock and should be fit for Saturday’s game against Brechin.
He added: “He’s been terrific for us. He’s come in and given the defence a lot of confidence, so we’re really pleased with him and he’s going to be a good goalkeeper.
“I can’t speak highly enough of Ryan. We’re delighted to get him and it’s a boost going into this weekend’s game.”
As for other potential new faces, Jefferies says he intends to “keep an eye on” Clyde forward pair Stuart McColm and Scott Ferguson after they had a stint with the Fife club last week, and will try to bring them back for training at a later date.
The Pars boss also remains keen on former Hibs and Celtic striker Derek Riordan, currently training with Alloa, although the ball seems to be firmly in the court of the ex-Scotland player.
“We contacted him and he knows of our interest,” he added. “We’ve done our bit, Derek knows our interest and all he needs to do is pick up the phone.
“Alloa have offered him the training facilities there, hoping that they can entice him to come.
“We’ve already contacted him, so it’ll be up to him whether or not he contacts us.”
