Dog lost after falling from cliff into sea off East Neuk of Fife

A team of 10 coastguards were involved in an unsuccessful two-hour rescue this afternoon after a dog fell from a cliff in the East Neuk of Fife.
A crew from Anstruther RNLI were also called out to search for the dog at around 2pm after it lost its footing and fell into the sea on a rocky part of the coastal path at Ardross, between Elie and St Monans.
A spokeswoman from HM Coastguard said: “We were alerted to the incident and immediately sent out a crew because there is always the concern when we get a call about a pet falling into the water or being in difficulty that the owner will jump in after it and try and rescue it themselves.
“An all-weather lifeboat was also in attendance and a search took place for the dog over a two-hour period but, sadly, we could not locate the dog and had to terminate the rescue mission.
“The owner is understandably extremely upset so we do not wish to issue any further details at this time.”
