Crieff has been given £7,000 to improve the town’s appearance ahead of this year’s Ryder Cup.
The local community council applied for cash to buy banners and flags, which will be on display across the town this summer.
The decorations will be stored and used again for future celebrations taking place in Crieff. The group was given a £5,000 grant by Perth and Kinross Council’s community challenge fund.
Community council chairman Stephen Leckie said: “We are delighted to acknowledge the generous support we have received from the community challenge fund, which has allowed us to commission59 decorative banners to enhance and promote our town, not only for the Ryder Cup, but as a legacy for future events.”
A second group from the town was also awarded a grant of £2,014.
The Crieff in Leaf Association will put the money towards its Gallowhill wall and High Street planters project.
The sloping flower bed at Gallowhill wall will be replaced with a dry stone wall, which will feature a commemorative stone celebrating this year’s Ryder Cup.
The second part of the project is to replace the 18 concrete troughs currently located on High Street with 10 modern planters to enhance the town’s major thoroughfare.
The concrete troughs will be reused in another part of the town.
Perth and Kinross Council said it has set out an ambitious legacy programme for 2014 to recognise the year of Homecoming, and to make the most of opportunities for the region during key events, such as the Queen’s Baton Relay, the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup.
A spokeswoman said: “A wide range of projects and events will be delivered across our area during 2014, building a legacy of active, involved communities with thriving economies and improved infrastructure.
“Communities are being encouraged to join in the celebrations and to ensure we make 2014 a year to remember in Perth and Kinross.”
