An Angus drug addict with a taste for prime meat has been remanded in custody.
James Pow swiped three sirloin steaks from the Co-op at Mayfield in Arbroath.
He told police: “I’m sorry. I was really starving and didn’t know what to do.”
At Forfar Sheriff Court the 25-year-old was sent behind bars by Sheriff Pino Di Emidio after admitting the £15 theft on Saturday, when he was subject to four bail orders.
The court heard that when collared, Pow also told police he was now stealing to order.
Defence solicitor Bob Bruce said Pow, of Great Michael Road, Arbroath, is the subject of a high tariff structured deferred sentence.
“Historically heroin was his issue, but it is now valium. He is also now on a methadone programme,” Mr Bruce told the court.
Pow will appear again before the sheriff on May 14.
