St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is hoping to give the Perth club’s season its second wind by doing some business before the transfer window closes tonight.
After being denied a League Cup final place by Hibs on Saturday, Saints will refocus on their league campaign, with a fifth Europa League campaign in a row still a possibility.
And Wright believes previous January signings have proved the value of strengthening a squad mid-season.
“We’ll see if there’s going to be any movement in the market,” he said.
“We probably feel that we need to freshen it up a wee bit, give the lads a bit of a lift by getting someone in.
“I’ll have to speak to the chairman.
“There’s a couple of things we’re working on. Hopefully that night happen.
“We’ve always used the January market pretty well. Danny Swanson came in last year and had a big influence on the squad once we got him fit. The season before, James Dunne came in and made an impact.
“In terms of numbers, it will not be huge. If we can get one in, it will give it a lift. If we can get two in, it will be even better.”
Wright is confident that his players will be able to quickly shrug off their Tynecastle disappointment.
He said: “It’s so tight at the minute, we have to try and consolidate top six.
“It’s difficult with the games in hand. I’d rather have the points. We’re still not that many points off Hearts with a couple of hands.
“We’ll have to play midweek and the state of the pitches at the minute can make it difficult.
“But we’ve still got a lot to play for – another top six finish and, if you can get fourth, who knows? That might also get you into Europe.”
