Dundee boss Paul Hartley believes Aberdeen have real chance of title

Dundee boss Paul Hartley believes Aberdeen have a “fantastic opportunity” to win the Premiership title.

The Dons had Hartley and his players to thank for helping them close the gap on leaders Celtic, thanks to their goalless draw on Wednesday.

With Aberdeen winning at Tannadice against Dundee United that same night, the Pittodrie men moved to within four points of the Hoops.

Hartley believes it really is a two-horse race and feels the Dons will be thinking the same.

He said: “It is close.

“I think they have a fantastic opportunity.

“It has been to-ing and fro-ing a little bit this season but Aberdeen will feel they have a real chance.

“With Celtic, I think the pressure is definitely on them.

“Aberdeen have closed the gap to four points and have still to play Celtic so I think that makes it good for our game in Scotland to have a close title challenge.

“I think they will fancy their chances with 10 (games) to go.

“Aberdeen have a really strong squad, even though they are missing a couple of key players just now.

“I definitely think there is a title challenge.”

Hartley thought there was a real edginess about the Parkhead stands as his team troubled the Hoops.

“I think anybody who was at the game last night, you could tell by the supporters,” he added.

“I said to the players at half-time that you know you are doing well when Celtic get booed off at half-time.

“We went there and what we didn’t do was park the bus.

“We played a high, pressing game against them and didn’t let them play out from the back.

“I think our game plan worked.”
