A man has been banned from Arbroath after admitting assaulting his wife.
Maksims Jermosins, 29, slapped his wife and repeatedly lunged at her after accusing her of being unfaithful. He also threatened to kill her as he launched into a three-day long abusive tirade.
Appearing from custody on Tuesday, he admitted that on Sunday he assaulted his wife, slapped her on the head and repeatedly lunged towards her at an address in Arbroath. Jermosins, whose address was given as Balgarthno Road, Dundee, also admitted three charges of breach of the peace prior to the assault.
At Arbroath Sheriff Court, depute fiscal Hazel Anderson said the couple had been in a relationship since 2006 and Jermosins had been “very possessive” since they married in 2008.
She said there was a disagreement before Jermosins became aggressive and warned his wife that if she phoned the police he would suffocate her.
Jermosins then called her a bitch and threatened to kill her. He told her: “What am I waiting for? I will suffocate you now.”
His wife suffers from panic attacks and was sitting down while Jermosins held his belt tight against his chest.
The following day, the court heard, he arrived home and began looking at her computer and accused her of being unfaithful.
She said she had done nothing wrong but he demanded to see her emails and was calling her a prostitute and a whore.
Ms Anderson said: “The next day he was again calling her a whore and a prostitute. She went into the bedroom and he followed her.
“He smashed her mobile phone and the house phone. A friend arrived later on and heard them arguing.
“The accused struck her across the face.”
Defence agent Nick Markowski said the marriage had broken down and they had been sleeping separately.
Sheriff Gregor Murray deferred sentence until April 8 for reports.
He told Jermosins: “I appreciate your marriage seems to have broken down however, that does not excuse your appalling behaviour.”
Bail was opposed by the Crown. Ms Anderson said there was police concern for the safety of Jermosins’ wife if he was liberated.
However, bail was granted by the sheriff on the condition Jermosins stays out of Arbroath until his next court appearance. He is also to have no contact with his wife.
