Dundee chairman Bill Colvin has opened talks with Dens Park owner John Bennett in a bid to buy back the stadium.
The famous old ground was purchased by the former businessman in 2009 but he has always said he would be willing to sell it back.
Now Colvin is in negotiations with Bennett, who is a director on the Dundee United board, to do just that.
The Dark Blues chairman told the BBC: “We are grateful for John’s help at a time when the club needed it.
“It was always in our plans to bring Dens back into the Dundee family ownership and negotiations have begun to do that.
“Obviously it is dependent on price, but I can confirm that talks are under way with John to buy Dens Park.”
Bennett added: “I told Dundee at the time I bought the ground that I would sell it back if it was going into the hands of Dundee fans and I’ll stand by that.”
Back in 2013 it was reported that Bennett would be looking for around £750,000 to sell Dens however it isn’t known if he has set a similar asking price now.
