East Fife boss Willie Aitchison says everyone at Bayview is firmly focused on getting results back on track after watching his side slump to the bottom of League One.
The Fifers fell to the foot of the division after their 2-0 loss down at Stranraer on Saturday and that has had some fans fearing another long season ahead all in the knowledge that the club just managed to escape relegation via the play-offs under Billy Brown last term.
However, Aitchison remains committed to improving East Fife’s fortunes in not only the short term but the longer term, and insists the players and management are working hard to achieve that.
When Courier Sport spoke to Aitchison, he was scouring over video footage of last week’s loss.
“I’m just sitting watching it now and I have to say again, I’m really pleased with how we passed in the game,” he said.
“There was a wee excerpt there where we strung 22 passes together from back to front, and some of our play was brilliant it’s just the mistakes we need to cut out.
“I’ve re-run the first goal and it was just a case of Jonny Stewart and Robbie (Neilson) being attracted to the same runner, they’ve left a guy in the middle of the park who has had a simple chip into the box and they’ve had a tap in.
“But the players are very, very positive, they’ve been training hard and they want to turn things around. We’ve got to focus on each game as it comes, look to keep a clean sheet and concentrate for Saturday.”
The Fifers host Airdrieonians on Saturday and Aitchison knows a victory will hoist his men up the table.
“If we can win we can go three or four places up the league, so it’s very tight,” he added. “It’s going to be like that for most of the season I think and I don’t think there’s going to be much between the nine teams below Rangers.”
Defender Gary Naysmith will be available for selection for the Diamonds’ visit after recovering from a dead leg.
