Angus councillors well informed on violence against women
ByThe Courier Reporter
Angus Council has become the first in the country to receive an elected member briefing around gender-based violence prepared by the Improvement Service for Scotland’s councillors.
Alongside an Angus Violence Against Women Partnership (AVAWP) display in the Town and County Hall, Forfar, councillors were joined at the event by Adrian McLaughlin, chairman of AVAWP, and Anne Brown from Women’s Aid.
The briefing was part of the 16 Days of Action programme by AVAWP, which is aiming to spread the message that violence against women is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
The campaign started on November 25 and, through 16 Days of Action, AVAWP has also been teaming up with Focus on Alcohol Angus to raise awareness of alcohol misuse and domestic abuse at each of the local Christmas lights switch-on events.
