Dundee United skipper Sean Dillon insists there will be no lingering bad feeling after Sunday’s feisty William Hill Scottish Cup tie with Celtic.
The game at Tannadice saw the Tangerines’ Paul Paton mistakenly sent off early on along with the Hoops’ Virgil van Dijk, with the home side’s Paul Dixon dismissed in the second half.
United were also aggrieved by Scott Brown’s tackle on Nadir Ciftci which sparked the mayhem off while Celtic were convinced that Aidan Connolly went down too easily in the incident that led to United’s spot-kick.
Once the dust had settled, the game ended even and the sides now face a replay.
Before that though, there is the “small matter” of the League Cup Final at Hampden this coming Sunday and Dillon believes calm heads will prevail despite everything that happened last weekend.
He said: “Regardless of age you need to keep the head. You need to concentrate for 90 minutes as it’s huge, it’s a cup final.
“I don’t expect it to carry on into Sunday.
“It showed everybody was up for the game. Sometimes you’ll get a tackle or things will boil over but I don’t see it carrying over at all.
“Others might think differently, but I don’t see it that way, maybe because I wasn’t involved.
“If you let it get to you, it can affect you and the team. You need to stick together as a group and make sure you are looking after yourself and each other.
“We don’t want anyone going into the game thinking about anything other than putting on a good team performance and winning the cup.”
