Senior councillors were kept in the dark over allegations of abuse at a Dundee school, it has been claimed.
The suggestion came as further reports of abuse toward children with special needs at Kingspark School surfaced.
Several people with disabled children at the school, who are not part of the group of seven families already campaigning for a serious case review into the council’s handling of their allegations, have contacted The Courier to add their concerns.
Their stories mirror those in Tuesday’s Courier whereby a group of parents have asked for a review into their claims that children have sustained “unexplained injuries” at the school and the council have tried to “cover up” the allegations.
One woman, from Angus, said last night she believed something was “very wrong” at the school as her grandson, then aged 10 or 11, “hated” having to attend Kingspark.
She said the boy, now 15, had previously loved going to school in Monifieth and equally adores his new school in Edinburgh after the family took him out of Kingspark.
Meanwhile, Dundee’s most senior councillor,Ian Borthwick, hit out angrily at the city council, saying the first he had heard of the situation was when he read about it.
He said chief executive David Dorward has now written to all councillors asking them to attend a briefing next week, but says members should have been appraised of the investigations over the past three and a half years.
