Police Scotland are asking Dundee United fans to plan their trip to Glasgow ahead of Sunday’s League Cup Final against Celtic at Hampden.
Roads and trains are expected to be busier than normal as fans travel from the east coast to Glasgow.
Bus companies in Tayside said last month they were already fully booked up for the final. Officers will be carrying out high-visibility patrols to help ensure that everyone gets to and from the match safely and has reminded fans it is illegal to drink alcohol in public or on their coach.
As well as working with officers from British Transport Police, additional Police Scotland officers will be on duty in the city and will be patrolling the roads to minimise disruption and congestion on major routes.
Superintendent Jim Coubrough, match Commander for the Scottish League Cup Final, said: “Sunday will be a very exciting day for Scottish football and I hope that everyone who is going to the final will enjoy the experience.
“Our job is to ensure that there is a safe and secure environment for fans to enjoy the match. We will be ensuring that there is minimum disruption to those who live, work and socialise in the city centre and in and around the stadium. “The city has played host to a number of high profile games in recent months. As with other matches, it will be policed appropriately to ensure that we keep people safe.”
A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The League Cup Final between Dundee United and Celtic promises to be a great match and fitting occasion for both teams and sets of supporters.
“If you’re travelling by train to Hampden Park in Glasgow be aware that many ScotRail services, including specials, will have alcohol restrictions in place.
“This is for a very good reason. We want everyone to arrive safely, securely and on time and without encountering alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour which could spoil your day, or someone else’s, unnecessarily.”
United fans are set to burst into applause in the third minute of Sunday’s match as part of a campaign urging the Scottish Government to introduce Frank’s Law.
