The Scottish Cup final between Dundee United and St Johnstone next month is also shaping up as another notable occasion a gathering of the clan Robertson.
Tangerines full-back Andy Robertson has revealed that he will have his own substantial personal support at the showpiece match after being inundated with requests for tickets from friends and family.
However, he insists that while thoughts of the cup final are never far from the players’ minds at the moment, they will focus fully on league business against Motherwell this afternoon as they look to bounce back strongly following last week’s loss to Saints at McDiarmid.
Robertson said: “My mum phoned me after the semi-final and said she’d already got 100 requests. I have a massive family who will be going. And then there’s all my pals who will want a day out.
“It will be pretty stressful trying to satisfy all my family. I’ll just get a big bundle of tickets for them all and hopefully I’ll get squared up!
“I’ll be collecting the money first so no way will I be out of pocket!”
He added: “It’s obviously hard not to think of the cup final. But we have to continue to try to push up that league. We had a poor result against St Johnstone last weekend which we have to make amends for this Saturday.
“I think because the two cup final teams were playing against each other, they were always going to say whichever one lost had one eye on the final.
“That is just the nature of it. I felt we just didn’t show up on the day. So we need to look at ourselves for that because not one of us got pass marks.”
Robertson has been a virtual ever present for United in what is his first season for the club. However, he is not harbouring any thoughts of needing a rest in the games leading up to the cup final.
Robertson said: “No, the gaffer hasn’t mentioned it. I want to play in every game. You train all week and want to play.
“I actually felt worse after the recent game against Aberdeen when I was suspended because when I went back into training on the Monday morning I was stiff.
“So I won’t be one who’s asking for a rest.
“I don’t want to be sitting on the bench or in the stand watching a game. It’s hard because we have such a competitive squad but I want to be involved all the time.”
