A former Dundee United starlet has thanked the medics who saved his life following a horrific Angus car crash last summer.
Ross McDonald had his blossoming football career pulled from under his feet after he nearly died when a Vauxhall Corsa he was travelling in flipped over while heading through Easthaven, near Carnoustie.
The 17-year-old was in the car with another Angus teenager, Gregor Brand, and both boys suffered serious injuries.
The lads were rushed to hospital following the incident in June 2013 and Ross spent two weeks in intensive care after suffering a range of injuries to his brain, chest and face.
Despite the near-fatal experience Ross has returned to school and is back playing football at a junior level.
He decided to send a special “thank you” message to the medical experts who saved his life on that terrifying night by raising cash for Ninewells through a sponsored leg wax.
He handed a cheque over to the trauma team personnel on Thursday and spoke about the incident for the first time.
Ross said: “I would like to thank all the emergency services who attended that evening as I know they all played a vital role, both at the scene and at the hospital.”
His mother, Morven, who works for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in Dundee, spoke of her pride in her son’s attitude.
“He has amazed everybody. He still has another two to three years to go but his progress has been amazing.”
