Raith Rovers’ Barrie McKay wants to seize the chance to boost his side’s promotion hopes with victory over Hibs today and do his parent club Rangers a favour in the process.
The on loan winger will be keen to impress if he gets the opportunity at Stark’s Park this afternoon and knows three points at the Easter Road club’s expense will benefit both Raith and Rangers in the grand scheme of things.
“My priority needs to be to perform well for Raith Rovers and make sure we get the right result, but if that can help Rangers while I’m not at the club then that is a massive bonus,” he stressed.
“I chat with the boys at Rangers quite a bit and they have all wished me well and I’m sure they will be wanting me to do them a favour against Hibs at the weekend.
“Hibs are a massive club and have proved in recent weeks that they are a good side.
“You would expect them to be to determined to put on a show and bounce back from their defeat last weekend.
“But we have to work hard, look to retain possession when we get the chance and try to play our own game.
“We can’t just sit in and defend.
“With the boys we have, we have plenty of attacking players.
“It isn’t in our make-up to just sit in and absorb pressure.
“We should be looking to get up the park and create our own chances and we have the players to do that.
“When you come up against a bigger team, the onus is always on them.
“They might be a little on edge and that can work in our favour, while we have more freedom to express ourselves.
“No-one expects us to take three points.”
McKay does not know where his future lies come the end of the season but has enjoyed his loan stint at Stark’s Park so far despite suffering an injury setback which took him out of the first team.
“It’s been a challenge to get back in the side with the boys doing well,” he commented.
“I was out with an ankle knock but I just need to keep working hard.
“Guys like Grant Anderson and Ryan Conroy push you hard to improve and train hard and, if you get the chance to impress, then you need to take it.
“That is what you want from a loan spell – for it to make you a better player.
“I’ve come here to get games, but you want to work hard to earn your place.
“It is down to myself to show what I am capable of.”
