Dundee United full-back Andrew Robertson has been praised by his manager for being an exception to the rule that young players are inconsistent.
Tannadice boss Jackie McNamara has been surprised by the high standard Robertson has maintained since signing from Queen’s Park in the summer.
McNamara said: “Andrew has been so consistent in the six games he has started. I think you could see even in pre-season that he wasn’t one for the future, but one for right now.
“It is great and hopefully he can continue to gain confidence and keep progressing.
“I didn’t expect him to be as consistent as he has been, to be honest.
“He is very focused, though. Before games you can see that he wants to be on his own in the dressing-room and isn’t fazed by anything.
“I think even the lads in the squad were surprised by how he just took everything in his stride.
“The thing I like about him most is that he’s always on the front foot and looking to get forward.
“And when he has to he’s never slow to put in a tackle which is great.”
Asked about a similarity in style of play between Robertson and ex-United left-back Paul Dixon, McNamara added: “Yes, Dixon was a great young player too. If Andrew keeps progressing I’m sure he will be one the fans take to even more and will be a top player for a long time to come.”
