Police in Carnoustie are investigating two attempted thefts in the early hours of Thursday morning. A man was disturbed at a property on Balmachie Road at about 4am nothing appears to have been stolen. A house in Burnside Gardens was targeted at about 7am. The intruder was disturbed by the homeowner and made off empty handed. The suspect is about 5ft 7in, with mousy brown-coloured hair, wearing dark-coloured clothing and carrying a rucksack. Officers are reminding householders to always lock all doors and windows before retiring to bed for the night. It is recommend they are made secure during waking hours and when at home so as to reduce the opportunity for thieves. A spokesman said: “It is important that a home looks occupied even if no one is home. Leave a light if you are unlikely to be home before dark. “Consider buying timer devices for lights if the house is going to be unoccupied during hours of darkness. If you have a house alarm, use it.” Anyone who sees any suspicious activity is asked to contact police on 101.
