Council officers are assessing safety at a block of flats in Inverkeithing where a blaze broke out.
The fire started in a stairwell cupboard of the three-storey building in Fraser Avenue and firefighters were called out at just after 7.15am on Friday.
No one was injured and the fire was confined to the stairwell but Fife Council staff are on site with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to assure the safety of tenants.
A council spokesman said: “Staff went out immediately after we were made aware of the issue.
“We are still in the very early stages but we will offer people temporary accommodation if they need it until we check over the flats.
“There is no immediate danger to anyone.”
Three fire appliances from Dunfermline were dispatched to the incident and crews have extinguished the blaze.
Damage was caused to the stairwell and the main door.
An investigation is being conducted into the cause of the fire.
Police Scotland was alerted but is not treating it as suspicious.
