A Fife man who was reported missing on Wednesday evening – sparking a wide scale search involving a police helicopter – has been found safe and well in the Kirkcaldy area.
William Paterson, from Methilhill, had been last seen walking towards Hayfield Road at around 4.10pm on Wednesday and police issued an appeal as concerns grew for his welfare.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that a helicopter equipped with a high-powered search light had been deployed in the search, with the focus on the Dunnikier and Hollybrae areas of town.
Officers have now confirmed that Mr Paterson was traced at around 5am on Thursday morning in the Kirkcaldy area, and have thanked the public and media for their assistance.
