Argos closure a further blow for Kirkcaldy’s retail fortunes
ByCharlene Wilson
One of Kirkcaldy’s most prominent high street shops has announced it will close next month.
Argos, at the entrance to the Mercat Shopping Centre, has been in the High Street for more than three decades but won’t be renewing its lease when it runs out at the end of May.
A spokeswoman said: “The Argos store at Kirkcaldy Mercat Centre, Fife has reached the end of its lease and will be closing on Saturday May 30.
“As part of the consultation process we are working with colleagues to identify alternative employment at other Argos stores in the area and within Home Retail Group.
“We remain committed to the Fife area and customers can continue to shop at the nearby Fife Central Retail Park at Chapel Park which is less than four miles away.”
The firm also pointed to its online service as another option for customers.
The closure is a further blow for the town, which will see its Tesco branch shut down on Saturday despite a local campaign to save it.
