Albion Rovers trial ‘pay what you can’ scheme for match with Montrose

Albion Rovers will trial a “pay what you can” initiative for Saturday’s visit of Montrose that will allow fans to gain entry for as little as £1.
Cliftonhill chairman John Devlin is hoping the experiment inspired by a similar scheme run by English League One side Brentford in December 2012 will lead to an increase in their attendance.
Both home and visiting supporters will be asked to pay what they can afford for a ticket beyond a minimum £1.
The normal price of admission to see the League Two promotion hopefuls, who knocked Motherwell out of the Scottish Cup in November, is £10 for an adult, with concessions £5 and Under-16s £2.
Rovers’ biggest gate so far this season came on December 28 when 538 fans watched them beat Queens Park 2-1, but generally between 300 and 400 supporters turn up to their home matches.
Devlin said: “Since I took over in September I’ve been looking at ways in which we can re-engage with the local community.”
