Edinburgh man committed fourth drink-driving offence after Rewind Festival

A drink-driver was jailed for five months after admitting a fourth offence in less than 10 years.

Stewart Manson was driving home from this year’s Rewind Festival at Scone Palace on July 29 when he was spotted veering around the A90 between Perth and Dundee.

He was pulled over by police officers, who discovered that he was twice the legal limit. He admitted having drunk two bottles of cider at the event.

The 34-year-old had been back on the road for just a few months after serving a five-year ban for an earlier drink-driving offence.

Manson, of Stuart Square in Edinburgh, admitted driving with excess alcohol (73 mics). The limit is 35 mics.

Solicitor Billy Somerville said his client was “under no illusions” about the penalties the court would consider but, nonetheless, suggested a non-custodial alternative.

Sheriff Lindsay Foulis said: “This is the fourth occasion on which you have been convicted of drink-driving in just under 10 years.

“Custody is the only appropriate disposal.”

In addition to jailing Manson, the sheriff also banned him from the road for 10 years.
