‘How many more people have to die?’ Call for A92 safety improvements after fatal crash
ByMichael Alexander
Campaigners battling for safety improvements on the A92 through Fife have called for urgent talks with the authorities after the latest fatal accident to afflict the road.
While campaigners say driver error can be blamed for some accidents, they believe improved lighting, signage and even dualling of the carriageway could make the road safer.
Two men died in the two-car accident which happened at 5.50am on Wednesday between Freuchie and Ladybank. A Ford Focus was involved in a collision with a Hyundai i30 resulting in the two men in the Focus sustaining fatal injuries. The male driver of the Hyundai was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee for treatment after sustaining serious injuries.
The road remained closed for more than eight-and-a-half hours while accident investigators worked. Police say inquiries are ongoing and anyone who can assist has been urged to contact them immediately.
Howe of Fife councillor David MacDiarmid said: “How many more people have to die? I fear we will still be talking about this when the next accident happens.”
