Thieves steal Christmas presents in north-east Fife break-ins

Christmas presents have been stolen during a number of housebreakings in north-east Fife.

Thieves targeted four homes in Newport between Thursday and yesterday and police are trying to establish if the break-ins are linked.

The houses involved are on Robert Street, Victoria Street and Queen Street.

Various items of personal property, including goods intended as Christmas presents, were taken.

Officers have urged anyone with information to come forward.

They have also called on householders to help deter criminals by ensuring their homes are safe and secure.

Detective Sergeant Alec Raeside said: “As part of Operation RAC we are actively trying to trace those responsible for these break-ins and I would ask that anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious around these areas contacts police immediately.

“In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this investigation should also get in touch.”

He added: “The public are reminded to take all necessary security measures to ensure their home is not an attractive target for criminals.

“Simple measures such as keeping doors and windows locked, storing valuables out of sight and securing all sheds, garages and outbuildings will help keep your property safe.”

More information on crime prevention can be found on the police website at www.scotland.police.uk.

Anyone with any information on the Newport break-ins can contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
