St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is hoping that the Perth club’s shock win against Celtic will have a double-effect.
The main one would be giving his own team the confidence to clinch a top six finish.
And a bonus of the unexpected three points would be demoralising their rivals.
Wright, whose side will be back in action against Partick Thistle on Saturday for the first time since their Parkhead heroics, explained: “Psychologically the Celtic win was huge for us.
“The performances had been good but we were disappointed with the Motherwell and Kilmarnock results where we drew, and with our first half against Celtic at McDiarmid.
“They might not admit it, but I would imagine the teams around us would have been looking on Celtic beating us as a banker last week.
“What the win did was give us a lift, and hopefully it will have given the other teams a bit of a negative.”
Wright stressed that he doesn’t see the league split in five games’ time as the finishing line for Saints’ season.
He pointed out: “I’m really pleased with how we’re playing going into such an important time.
“If we can maintain our level of performance it will get us into the top six, but I also think it will get us higher in the league after that.
“That’s got to be our aim.”
