Alexander Terris, a former director of one of Fife’s longest-established bakeries has passed away, aged 80.
Mr Terris, from Limekilns, took over the running of William Stephen Bakers in 1949, aged just 16, along with his brother Ian and sister Margaret, following his father’s sudden death. Alexander Terris Sr, from Townhill, had worked in the bakery since 1933 and eventually took over ownership in 1942.
Mr Terris, who was educated at Commercial Primary School and Dunfermline High School, was instrumental in the modernisation of the business, which was first established in 1873.
In the 1950s and 1960s the firm, known today as Stephens Bakery began to branch out with various shop premises opening up across west Fife.
Mr Terris is survived by his wife Katherine and his daughters Sally, Christine and Valerie, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr Terris’ funeral will take place on Thursday at 10.30am at Limekilns Parish Church, thereafter at Dunfermline Crematorium at 11.30am.
