A man has died following an incident at Stenton Bridge in Glenrothes this morning.
It is understood the man may have fallen from the bridge on to the carriageway below.
The road between the Bankhead and Stenton roundabouts was closed while emergency services attended the incident, although it reopened at around 11am.
No one else was injured, and it is understood no vehicles were involved.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said they were called to Kinglassie Road at 7.25amfollowing reportsthata man’s body had been recovered from the carriageway.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and no other vehicles were involved,” the spokesman added.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal, as is the case in all sudden deaths.
“The road has been reopened to traffic.”
Residents trying to cross the bridge at Culzean Drive were turned back throughout the morning by police officers, and investigations into exactly what happened are continuing.
The victim has not yet been named by police, and his identity will not be divulged until next of kin have been informed.
Locals living in and around the Pitteuchar and Stenton areas were trying to come to terms with what happened.
Chairman of the local community council, Peter Scobie, said: “It’s just shocking. We don’t know exactly what’s happened but lots of people use that footbridge every day.
“We’ve had problems with people throwing things off that bridge on to the road in the past, but nothing like this.”
