A Perthshire teenager is all set to star in The Great British Bake Off.
Flora Shedden from Dunkeld will be the youngest person to take part in this year’s competition.
The 19-year-old, who is due to start at St Andrews University next term, will feature alongside stalwart judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood when the new series starts airing on August 5.
Flora, who works at an art gallery in Perth, regularly posts pictures of her stunning culinary creations to her Instagram page and website.
Regarding her baking passion, she wrote online: “Whenever there is a celebration I always feel obliged to make a cake.
“Regardless of how hectic life is, whether or not we have anything in our cupboards, and even if I have a million other things to cook, I always feel it is a must.”
The BBC has described her as “an old head on young shoulders”.
A spokesman said: “Flora lives at home with her parents and two younger sisters in the Scottish countryside, 20 minutes from the nearest shop. But she always makes sure the larder is stocked and regularly bakes cakes and loaves for the family, often filling the freezer up with ingredients.
“Flora comes from a big family of bakers and can’t remember ever not baking. But standards have to be high to impress her harshest critics: her sisters.”
Filming of this year’s contest has already finished but the result is being kept tightly under wraps.
Last year’s series was marred by controversy after contestant Iain Watters claimed his showstopper dessert was sabotaged by a rival.
He threw his baked alaska in the bin after the ice-cream melted. It was alleged fellow baker Diana Beard had removed the dessert from the freezer.
And in 2013 the show was rocked by “Custardgate” when Deborah Manger stole custard made by rival Howard Middleton and used it in her own trifle.
Howard’s effort was judged the best of the day, while Deborah’s version was described as “far too slack” by Paul Hollywood.
It was the second mishap to hit Howard as a previous episode saw presenter Sue Perkins dent his muffins with her elbow.
