Brechin boss Darren Dods has pinpointed a former Glebe Park favourite as the danger man his players must beware of at Ayr today.
City travel to Somerset Park for the League Cup tie with Ian McCall’s team almost certain to include Alan Trouten.
The 29-year-old netted 18 times for Brechin last season but was lured to Ayr this summer along with another City stalwart, centre-half Gerry McLauchlan.
Defender Dods has first-hand knowledge of just how dangerous Trouten can be but he is looking for his side who will be bolstered by the addition of former Falkirk, St Johnstone and Alloa front man David Weatherston to bounce back strongly from last week’s defeat at home to Peterhead in the Petrofac Training Cup.
He said: “There is still a lot of work to do as we lost a few players from last season and it is very much a new squad.
“We signed Ross Perry and Jonathan Tiffoney last week and I think they will be good additions.
“We should also have Peter Weatherston in the squad for the game at Ayr.
“He has been training with us and we just need to complete the paperwork on his signing.
“Last week’s game against Peterhead was always going to be a tough test and we did all right until their second goal killed us to a certain extent.
“It will certainly not be any easier this week at Ayr.
“They have strengthened during the close season and will be looking to challenge at the top of the league.
“Of course, we will most likely be facing Alan Trouten.
“I have played against him a few times and he is always a dangerous player who is likely to chip in with a goal so we will have to keep a careful eye on him.
“We probably couldn’t have been handed a more difficult start to the season with Peterhead followed by Ayr and then Dunfermline in the league next week but it is a good challenge for us and one we will have to step up to.”
