A man who grabbed a pub bouncer by his testicles has been ordered to pay a £100 compensation order.
Christopher McMurchie’s girlfriend Gemma Sharp was also ordered to pay £100 for her part in the assault on pub doorman Gary Ironside.
The couple pleaded guilty as the case was due to go to trial.
McMurchie, 23, of Strathmore Avenue, admitted that on June 8 at McDaniels pub, Whitehall Crescent, he assaulted Mr Ironside by grabbing him by the testicles.
Sharp, 26, also of Strathmore Avenue, admitted assaulting Mr Ironside and kicking him on the head to his injury.
Depute fiscal Laura Bruce told the court the couple’s loud behaviour had come to the attention of Mr Ironside during a live band set.
At about 1am, McMurchie took exception to something that was said and words were exchanged between McMurchie and Mr Ironside.
Mrs Bruce said: “Mr Ironside asked them to leave, McMurchie refused and Mr Ironside took his drink and walked him to the door.
“Mr Ironside saw McMurchie square up to him and a scuffle broke out at the door. Miss Sharp came over and kicked Mr Ironside in the face.”
Police officers were quickly called.
Mrs Bruce said: “Mr McMurchie had a grip on Mr Ironside’s testicles. He was pulling on them. There does not seem to be any injury.”
Sharp’s solicitor Paula Mill said: “Her position is she was attempting to pull the bouncer off her partner.”
McMurchie’s agent Lee Quimseh said: “This does appear to be very much out of character. He did sustain an injury to his eye. He does admit his behaviour was entirely inappropriate.”
Sheriff George Way ordered them each to pay £100 compensation.
He said: “I’m prepared to take a risk on both these people that they understand how close they have come to ruining their entire lives.
“You will still have a conviction for a crime of violence. That to my mind is the real punishment here.”
