Not proven verdict for Coupar Angus man accused of rape
ByThe Courier Reporter
Jurors at the High Court in Perth delivered a not proven verdict in the case against a Coupar Angus man accused of a sex offence.
Mathew Rodger (22), of Davidson Crescent, had been accused of raping a woman who was incapable of giving or withholding her consent due to alcohol at a property in Coupar Angus on October 22 2011.
The charge went on to allege that the attack had led to the woman’s injury.
However, following a trial presided over by Lord Bracadale, which lasted for a week, jurors deliberated on the evidence and decided that the Crown had failed to prove its case and Rodger should be acquitted.
The verdict was by a majority.
