Leven residents are anxious for answers with the Mary Logie murder investigation now in its third week.
The 82-year-old grandmother, who was known as “Rae”, was found beaten to death with a rolling pin at her home in Green Gates on the evening of Tuesday January 5.
Rev Gilbert Nisbet, of Leven Parish Church, said: “I think people want to know why it happened and how it happened.
“This is the kind of thing that you watch on the television and it seems distant, then suddenly something happens in your neighbourhood to somebody up the road and you don’t expect that.
“One lady said to me she always locks her doors but now she double checks it.”
Police Scotland now believe she was attacked on the morning of January 5 and never left her upstairs flat that day. She was found in her nightgown and had missed appointments.
The flat next door has been searched by forensic officers and a white Ford Transit van removed from the scene.
Police are maintaining a presence in the area. An incident van is still parked outside Mrs Logie’s flat and officers are patrolling the streets.
They are appealing for witnesses to contact the force on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
