‘Playing Russian roulette with your life’ expert issues warning to users of ‘legal highs’

A game of Russian roulette is still being played on the streets of Angus as the trade in so-called legal highs moves further underground, according to experts.
Despite community action against high-street shops selling new psychoactive substances (NPS) across the country, it has emerged use of such chemicals is taxing ambulances and filling hospitals.
Ahead of a BBC documentary, The Courier spoke to local experts and one of the scientists behind a project showing exactly what goes in to NPS.
Angus South MSP Graeme Dey said the county took the lead when Trading Standards and Police Scotland began to address High Street shops in Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose over the last year.
He said their removal “won’t stop the demand” that has been created, however.
