A Forfar man has been jailed for 180 days for numerous offences, including assault and shop lifting.
Kevin Smith, 29, of Glenmoy Terrace appeared for sentencing in front of Sheriff Kevin Veal at Forfar Sheriff Court.
He admitted that between September 2 and 30 on Gallowshade Road in Forfar he resisted arrest and repeatedly struggled violently with police officers while they tried to arrest him.
He also admitted assaulting a woman on the same day, shoplifting from Home Bargains in Forfar on June 10 and from Davidsons Chemist in Forfar on June 27.
Bob Bruce, defending agent, said Smith had a history of drug and alcohol issues and would benefit from community-based intervention. He also said his life had deteriorated further after recent family deaths.
Sheriff Kevin Veal referred to the “far from insignificant” resources already given to Smith to avoid jail and said: “There is no realistic prospect of a community-based disposal being successful.”
