Montrose remain five points off the play-off places in League Two after battling their way to a gritty point at home to Stirling Albion in dreadful weather conditions.
Stirling went close to scoring on 21 minutes when a header from Mick O’Byrne hit the post and went behind.
On 52 minutes, Paul Watson tried an audacious effort from a 45-yard free-kick that Stirling keeper David Crawford saved on the line.
Montrose went close again on 70 minutes when an Alan Campbell header was cleared off the line by Graham Weir.
Keeper Stuart McKenzie saved at the feet of Stirling’s top scorer Jordan White, then, as time ran out, Jamie Reid had a shot saved by Crawford.
As he thawed out after the final whistle, Montrose boss Stuart Garden said: “A point wasn’t a bad result in the conditions.
“The wind totally spoiled the game and made it so hard for the players. It makes you wonder if football should be played in these conditions.
“We tried to pass the ball, but sometimes we just had to put it in the air and hope for the best.
“The wind dictated the game and overall a point each was about right. All the games in the division finished level so it is as you were.
“We kept a clean sheet and we battled right to the death, so I can’t ask for any more.”
