An elderly man who got lost in a labyrinth of Monifieth new-builds wants to thank his mysterious rescuer.
John Alexander, 94, of Panmurefield Terrace was on his way back from Dobbies Garden Centre when he got disoriented.
However, a good Samaritan stopped to help him. Mr Alexander did not get her name but is keen to trace the kind-hearted young blonde who drove him home so he can express his gratitude.
He said: “I was delighted because I had been wandering around for almost two hours but she got me home in about five minutes. I suppose I’ll never see her again but I want to thank her for her kindness.”
Mr Alexander, who usually only walks as far as the bus stop and back, set off for Dobbies at 11am but as it was a bank holiday, he had to walk part of the way and could not get a bus back.
He waited at the bus stop for an hour before deciding to try and walk the 1.5-mile journey home.
He said: “It was quite a long walk. I thought I could go down West Grange Road but there are all new houses up there.”
Knowing his house was not far, he headed in the direction he knew he needed to go, cutting down a side path which led into Solway Gardens, a quiet cul-de-sac with eight streets leading off it, most of them dead ends.
He said: “I walked for about half an hour then ended up back where I started and I realised I was going in circles. I was really lost and I thought ‘you can’t get lost half a mile from home’.”
Mr Alexander had forgotten his mobile phone so he could not call his children to collect him and was growing increasingly distressed by 3.30pm when the driver of a red Mini stopped and asked if he needed help.
He said: “She was so kind and in all my happiness, I didn’t ask her name. I was so relieved to get home I didn’t even offer her a coffee.”
