Wacky children’s TV legend turned artist Timmy Mallett has again taken inspiration from Tayside for his latest work.
Timmy said he treasures every day he spends in the area and is looking forward to coming back when his art exhibition returns next month.
Mallett’s Palette will open at Eduardo Alessandro Studios in Broughty Ferry on April 4, following a hugely successful exhibition in May 2012.
Timmy told The Courier: “I love my trips to Dundee and Angus. It’s always a treat to be inspired by the light, the views, and the warm welcome. I treasure every day I spend here.”
The presenter developed a love of painting from an early age and studied history of art as part of his degree at Warwick University.
His oil paintings are now sought after by collectors in the UK and across the world. The collection will include a new painting of the Bell Rock Lighthouse off the coast of Arbroath.
Timmy first fell in love with Arbroath while filming children’s TV show Wacaday in the town in the 1980s. He returned with his brother Martin and previously painted the Bell Rock and the coastline after enjoying a sightseeing boat trip.
Timmy has now painted Robert Stevenson’s masterpiece from a different angle and the piece will join many new paintings in the exhibition.
His artwork also includes paintings of the Mills Observatory in Dundee, the Tay Rail Bridge, Broughty Castle and the Arbroath cliffs.
“If you’re going to be an artist you need to paint every day,” he said.
Timmy is an accomplished artist in oils and acrylics who takes his inspiration from the ever-changing seasons and his many travels across the UK and the world.
Another TV celebrity who loves and admires his paintings is Lorraine Kelly, who has several pieces of his work in her home.
Timmy added: “Scotland provides me with so much inspiration and the scenery takes my breath away. When I get back home I simply have to get my paint brushes out and get these scenes on canvas. I just love Scotland.”
The exhibition opens on Friday April 4 and Timmy will be at Eduardo Alessandro Studios on Gray Street, Broughty Ferry, from 7pm to 9pm.
There will be originals and limited edition prints on show, including some iconic Scottish scenes.
