East Fife were unable to hit top spot by beating Annan and boss Gary Naysmith knows exactly where his problems lie.
The Methil men played the majority of the match in the Annan half after the visitors’ Peter Weatherston was shown a first-half red card.
But despite their pressure and numerical advantage, they were unable to hit the back of Jordan Hart’s net.
The lack of killer instinct is becoming an issue for Naysmith.
He said: “I was delighted with the players’ effort and commitment.
“I’m not happy with the result and I as a manager have to tell them what went wrong and that was that we didn’t take our chances. It’d bitten us in the bum over the past couple of weeks as well.
“We have to just work through it and keep working on finishing in training like we do. My bigger problem would be if we weren’t creating the chances.”
The Fifers got off to a bad start when Rabin Omar’s deep cross was met by Weatherston who nodded home.
But they came right back into it and Nathan Austin passed up a couple of chances to pull his side level.
On the break Fife’s chances of getting back into the game were done a huge favour when Weatherston was ordered off for an off the ball swipe at Scott Mercer.
The visitors were in no mood to give up their advantage, however, as Jonathan Page and Austin both went close for Fife.
