Northern dressage riders were on form at the British Dressage Summer Regionals, held at the Cabin Equestrian Centre, Inverurie, Aberdeenshire.

Freelance instructor Jennifer Johnston won the open elementary with MFS Caliana.

In addition, Mrs Johnston’s daughter Rebecca Johnston Harman, 13, won the prelim class, and she trained Miss Debbie Murray to win the restricted novice class.

MFS Caliana was bred in Aberdeenshire by the Moray Firth Stud, based in Banff. The seven-year-old chestnut mare by MFS Vision arrived at Jennifer’s two years ago for schooling with a view to be sold.

The prelim class went to Rebecca with The Longhouse Rosadonna. The five-year-old sports pony is by Donnersohn and out of a Welsh section B mare, bred by Susie Mainprice at Morgan Equine.

“I bought her as a foal with the intention of turning her into a sports pony for Becca,” added Mrs Johnston.

Jennifer’s pupils were also in form with Debbie Murray and Fancy Man MFS winning the novice restricted class.

Debbie, who runs Millpond Livery, purchased Fancy Man MFS as a two-week-old foal.

Also bred by the Moray Firth Stud, the six-year-old gelding is sired by Fidtertanz and out of a De Niro mare.

This year they won the prelim title at the British Dressage Winter Championships at Hartpury in April.

Forres rider Dr Susan Grice won the Dressage Deluxe medium restricted with Frodo, a 13-year-old traditional ‘hairy cob’ gelding.

“He is a superstar who has stepped up to the mark at every level,” said Susan who combines a PhD in computing with working with horses and has produced a number of apps on stable management and basic care.

Taking time out of her job as head of the department of Accounting and Finance at Robert Gordon University, Professor Elizabeth Gammie won the open novice with Champagne Bubbles.

‘Bubbles’ was previously competed by her daughter Carmen, and has qualified for the nationals every time for the past six years.

Aberdeen University mechanical engineering student Caitlin Padfield won the restricted elementary championship with Upside Down Van De Kwikaard on a score of 70.78%.

Caitlin has been enjoying a year off concentrating on horses.

Jo Hamilton accounted for two classes with her own and Lady Hope’s Corchapin in winning the Dressage Deluxe medium open and Suregrow Fertiliser advanced medium open with two 70%+ scores.

The seven-year-old chestnut gelding by Negro is part of the World Class Pathway and HorseScotland Performance programmes.

This year they won the elementary freestyle and were runner ups in the medium freestyle at the winter championships.

Katherine Tullie won the Suregrow Fertiliser advanced medium restricted with the Australian-bred Arctic Jazz.

Jayne Jolly and Sam Sam accounted for the prix st georges regional championship.

Sam Sam was purchased as a seven-year-old after working as an approved Danish stallion. Although now gelded, Sam Sam has offspring now competing in the dressage arena.equestrian@thecourier.co.uk
