An 18-year-old Angus man has been placed on the sex offenders register after admitting asking a 13-year-old girl for sex.
Aiden Cargill, of School Road, Arbroath, admitted sending the girl a series of messages via Facebook.
He also asked the girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, to send him indecent photographs.
The offence occurred between July 28 and August 1, just days after the girl’s 13th birthday.
Depute fiscal Kirsten Thomson told the court: “On July 28 the accused asked the girl how old she was, stating that he was 18. She replied that she was 13.
“The messages continued between the pair including the accused asking to meet for sexual intercourse.
“He also asked about bringing condoms and if she was on the pill.”
The depute fiscal said the alarm was raised after the girl showed the messages to a relative and then her social worker.
During police interview, Cargill admitted the offences.
Sentence was deferred for a criminal justice social work report until May 12.
Cargill was placed on the sex offenders register ad interim, the period of registration to be determined at sentencing.
