Following the success of last year’s #SquirrelCrit race in Dunfermline a second is planned for this June.
City of Dunfermline councillors agreed £8,087 will be given to Active Fife from the local community planning budget to organise a Crit Cycle Race.
This follows on from last year’s #SquirrelCrit closed road cycling criterium race which took place in the town centre.
Area services manager Joe McGuinness said it had been “extremely successful”.
The event will take place on Thursday June 4 and will include a schools’ cycling session during the day.
The race itself will start and finish in Pittencrieff Park.
Committee chairwoman Helen Law said that following the highly successful #SquirrelCrit closed road cycling race last year, she was delighted that they were able to help bring it back this year.
“It gives children, young people and adults a new sports experience and the opportunity to participate in an Olympic sport.
“Hopefully it will also inspire and motivate anyone watching to get on their bikes too,” she added.
Councillor Billy Pollock added: “I fully support this. There was a fantastic turnout last year for this high profile cycling event.
“I spoke to people around me and they all thought it was brilliant.”
