An experienced Bosnian international defender will go on trial with St Johnstone as Tommy Wright looks to increase his options at centre-back.
French-born Sanel Jahic (31) has been capped more than 20 times for Bosnia-Herzegovina and has Champions League experience from his time with Cypriot outfit Apoel.
He has been released by Turkish side Karabukspor and Wright will run the rule over him, as well as former Scotland under-21 midfielder Martin Woods (27).
Glasgow-born Woods, who began his career at Leeds United then joined Sunderland, suffered injury problems at his last club Doncaster Rovers.
Wright reported: “Sanel has a very good pedigree and if we like the look of him and we appeal to the player the idea would be to get him on a short term contract through to the transfer window.
“With Steven Anderson out for a minimum of eight weeks after undergoing surgery on the thumb he dislocated against Partick Thistle, we are trying to keep ourselves covered if at all possible. I have no concern about the quality of players we have as defensive options but my worry is that we could leave ourselves short if we pick up another knock in that area of the squad.
“Martin’s career was set back by an injury but the left side of midfield is an area we have been keen to strengthen for a while.”
