A man threatened to “slash” his victim after being arrested by police, a court has heard.
James Andrew Townsley Brown appeared at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday accused of a string of offences, including carrying an axe, machete and samurai sword on the city’s streets.
Townsley Brown, 25, is also said to have assaulted Bryan Hamilton and brandished an axe and machete at him on September 30 last year.
He had denied all charges against him and a jury found him guilty of just one of the five charges, breach of the peace.
The court heard from PC Lee Stewart that officers were called to an incident where Townsley Brown was shouting at people in the street. However, they did not arrest him and left the scene.
They later returned following a call “that two persons had been fighting in Scotmid and one of them may have been in possession of a knife”.
They again found Townsley Brown shouting and swearing from a flat window and arrested him for breach of the peace.
Within the flat, officers discovered weapons, including an axe, which was displayed on the mantelpiece.
Townsley Brown, of Calton Street, Perth, was convicted of causing a breach of the peace and Sheriff Lindsay Foulis fined him £500.
A submission of no case to answer, made by Townsley Brown’s solicitor Steve Lafferty, was accepted in relation to the charges of carrying an axe and assaulting Mr Hamilton.
Townsley Brown was found not guilty of the remaining charges.
