Public could get say over Perth rubbish collections

Plans to improve arrangements for refuse collections in Perth city centre will be considered this week by the local authority.
Perth and Kinross Council’s environment committee will discuss a plan to replace the current twice-weekly uplift at a meeting on Wednesday.
The aim is to improve opportunities for recycling and minimise the visual and environmental impact of bags being burst open on roads and pavements and attracting unwanted pests such as gulls.
It is proposed that property surveys are carried out to develop options for replacing the sack collections with appropriate alternatives, ranging from wheeled bins to other collection facilities. This would then be followed by public consultation.
Councillor Alan Grant, who is Perth and Kinross Council’s environment convener, said: “If the proposals are approved at committee, we will undertake detailed surveys and consultation to determine what options will best fit the differing needs of properties in this urban area.”
