Fife Council taking over parking enforcement from police
ByCheryl Peebles
Enforcement of parking regulations in Fife is to be taken over by the council to free up police time to tackle serious crime.
From April 29, motorists who breach on-street and off-street parking rules will be issued penalties by the local authority instead.
Fife Council is following in the footsteps of councils in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Perth and Kinross.
Pat Callaghan, Fife Council’s executive spokesman for transportation and environment, said: “The arrangements will improve safety and access for all road users, while freeing up police time to focus on more serious crimes.”
Information about the change will be provided at drop-in events in St Andrews Town Hall on April 15, Dunfermline City Chambers on April 16 and Adam Smith Theatre, Kirkcaldy, on April 18, between 6pm and 8pm.
