May, who has scored seven goals this season and been called up to Scotland under-21s, signed a one-year deal in the summer. The 20-year-old was the subject of a failed bid by Peterborough in August and Saints were anxious to secure him on a longer-term deal. Talks have now been successfully concluded and Saints manager Tommy Wright reported: “I’m delighted that Stevie has extended his contract. “To some people it may have taken a while to conclude but having spoken to the player we were always confident that the deal would be done. “There were a number of finer details that had to be ironed out but negotiations were handled well by both parties and it’s fine to get it done.” May hit 26 goals for Hamilton last season after netting 19 goals in 22 matches for Alloa on a previous loan deal.
