A young Angus singer is making waves through her local music scene.
Cheryl Brown from Arbroath only started strumming her first guitar at the turn of the year but has already made it to the latter stages of the auditions for The Voice competition and amassed a growing following on YouTube.
The 17-year-old former Arbroath Academy pupil has also started getting gig bookings and said she is looking forward to playing this weekend’s Bizarre Beach Bazaar in her home town.
“I got the guitar as a Christmas present from my grandparents but I didn’t start playing until February,” said Cheryl, who was inspired to play after watching Ben Howard at a show in Aberdeen.
“After that I started practising all the time, even all night and I was hardly sleeping. I’ve now started getting gigs in Dundee and Arbroath and people seem to really like what I’m doing.
“I just get a good feeling when I’m playing and singing and music is the only thing I enjoy.”
The singer’s reputation is steadily growing, especially after meeting a range of industry experts at The Voice, where she progressed to the final shortlist.
However, she maintains fame is not her goal.
“I just want to share my music,” said Cheryl. “Meeting the people at The Voice boosted my confidence and gave me a taste of what the industry is like but I just want to play my music.”
Cheryl will play at 1.45pm on Saturday at the Arbroath Community Centre for the bazaar event.
